PM Modi To Address 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) Today

The focal theme of 108th Indian Science Congress 2023 is Science & Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment.

PM Narendra Modi will attend a video conference at the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) today, January 3. 

Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, which is commemorating its centennial this year, will host the five-day 108th session of ISC.

A significant occasion in the calendar of science, the previous iteration of the Indian Science Congress took place in Bengaluru in January 2020.

“Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment” is the main theme of this year’s ISC. 

According to a release from the Ministry of Science & Technology, the conference is anticipated to discuss ways to increase the participation of women in science and technology.

The conference attendees will hold conversations on themes of women’s empowerment, women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and the importance of science and technology in sustainable development, according to a statement from the PMO.

They will also discuss and consider measures to give women equitable access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education, research possibilities, and economic engagement, as well as ways to boost the number of women in higher echelons of teaching, research, and industry.

PMO stated that an unique programme showcasing the contributions of women in science and technology will also be presented and feature presentations by well-known female experts. Alongside ISC, a number of other programmes will be organized.

A Children’s Science Congress will also be held to encourage kids’ aptitude for and interest in science.

The Farmer’s Science Congress will offer a venue for advancing the bioeconomy and luring young people into agriculture.

Additionally, there will be a Tribal Science Congress, which will focus on empowering tribal women while serving as a venue for the scientific exposition of indigenous traditional knowledge systems and practices.

Congress convened for the first time in 1914. Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, which is also commemorating its centennial this year, will host the 108th annual session of ISC.
