Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly criticized those opposing the crackdown on politicians facing corruption charges and accused the so-called ‘Khan Market gang’ of fabricating false stories to protect culprits from legal action.
In a recent interview with IANS, Modi said that his government is very tough towards corruption.
“The same people who earlier cried foul over no action on big players have started crying hoarse about it,” Modi remarked.
Modi referenced critics who previously called for the arrest of figures like Sonia Gandhi, indicating a perceived double standard. “The same people who demanded that Sonia Gandhi be put behind bars are crying hoarse over action against corruption,” he said, pointing to the Aam Aadmi Party and its leaders as examples.
Opposition parties have accused Modi’s government of misusing investigative agencies to target opposition voices. Modi, however, insisted that he plays no role in the actions against corrupt leaders. He stated that independent investigative agencies are responsible for trails and cases.
“Before the 2019 elections, we were questioned over our stand and action on graft and why the government was not quick on punishing the perpetrators. Our outright response was that independent agencies will act against them and it will be done based on facts. Officials worked hard to gather the facts and today, big players are being caught and brought to justice,” Modi explained.
During this election 2024 many big faces were in jail or were facing corruption charges, including former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
CM of Delhi Kejriwal is currently out from the jail on interim bail to campaign for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024.
PM Modi’s recent interview highlighted the story of his administration’s commitment to tackle corruption at all levels.
His criticism of the ‘Khan Market Gang’ reflects his stance against the elite, who he believes are protecting corrupt individuals from facing the consequences of their actions.
With Lok Sabha elections underway, Modi’s tough and clear stance on corruption and the opposition can send a clear message to voters who prioritize transparency and accountability in governance.
