PM Modi Leaves For Egypt, To Visit 1000 Year Old Mosque

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has concluded his three-day state visit to the United States and has now left for Egypt.

During his two-day visit to Cairo (Egypt’s capital), PM Modi is scheduled to visit the historic Al-Hakim Mosque, which holds special significance for the Dawoodi Bohra Muslims in India.

The Al-Hakim Mosque is a 1,000-year-old structure located in the center of Cairo. It is named after Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, the 16th Fatimid Caliph.

This mosque is culturally significant to the Dawoodi Bohra community, and PM Modi’s visit is expected to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the Indian government and the community. The prime minister is expected to spend around 30 minutes at the mosque.

The Dawoodi Bohras are followers of the Fatimid Ismaili Tayyibi school of thought and have a unique culture. They trace their origins back to Egypt, then migrated to Yemen before eventually settling in India in the 11th century.

The community’s administrative center shifted from Yemen to Siddhpur, Gujarat, in India after a significant increase in the Bohra population.

The Al-Hakim Mosque is of particular importance to the Cairo Dawoodi Bohra community. After undergoing extensive renovations for six years, the mosque recently reopened.

After PM Modi’s visit it may attract more tourists to Cairo’s Islamic landmarks. The Dawoodi Bohra community has also contributed funds to support the renovation project.

PM Modi has celebrated a cordial relationship with the Dawoodi Bohras, primarily due to their strong presence in Surat, Gujarat. In the past, he has attended community events and paid respects to their spiritual leaders.

The current spiritual leader, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, and PM Modi share a longstanding friendly relationship.

The prime minister’s visit to Egypt and his visit to the Al-Hakim Mosque will strengthen the fostering ties with the Dawoodi Bohra community.
