PM Modi Can’t Be Forced To Take Action Against India’s Interests: Russia

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, at the 14th VTB Investment Forum ‘Russia Calling’, emphasized how PM Modi’s policies are a key factor in maintaining and strengthening the relationship between Russia and Bharat.

Putin expressed his admiration for PM Modi’s firm stance in defending our national interests. He mentioned that he can’t even imagine PM Modi being pressured or intimidated into taking actions that aren’t in line with the interests of India and its people.

Furthermore, Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the increasing trade between the two countries (India & Russia). He pointed out that last year the trade turnover was 35 billion dollars and in just the first half of this year, it reached 33.5 billion dollars.

This growth, he said, is partly because India gets preferential pricing on Russian energy resources. President Putin sees this as a wise move on Bharat’s part and acknowledges that there’s still much potential for further growth in our bilateral trade.

Putin also discussed the global economic standings, mentioning that India is the third-largest economy in terms of purchasing power parity, with Russia being fifth. He believes that given these standings, the trade turnover between our countries should increase, just as Russia’s trade with China has grown.

Putin also spoke about the North-South Corridor, a key logistical route, and the Northern Sea Route, which he sees as a promising direction in logistics. This could mean more opportunities for trade and transportation between our countries.

President Putin also stressed the importance of developing financial infrastructure and increasing the use of national currencies in mutual settlements, which could further strengthen our economic ties.

This isn’t the first time a Russian leader has praised Bharat’s foreign policy. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov cited statements by our External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, to emphasize the changing global structure and the rise of regions like the Global South and Global East.
