PM Modi at ISRO Centre, Bengaluru: Celebration of Chandrayaan-3

The success of Chandrayaan-3 mission is an extraordinary moment in the history of India’s space program, says Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He declared that India will celebrate August 23 every year as the day of soft landing on the Moon as the National Space Day.

PM Modi met ISRO Chairman S Somanath and congratulated him on the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon. He commended all the ISRO scientists who are involved in India’s moon mission. Modi gave the ISRO scientists the credit of awakening an entire generation and leaving a deep imprint on young minds.

Interacting with Indian Space Research Organization scientists in Bengaluru at the ISRO Command Center, he announced the landing spot of the Chandrayaan-3 mission would be known as “Shiv Shakti Point”.

“India has decided to name the touchdown point where Vikram Lander made a soft landing on the Moon as “Shiv Shakti Point”. The word “Shiv” stands for the welfare of humanity. “Shakti” stands for the required strength to get going to achieve the welfare of humanity.”

PM Modi said the Moon’s Shiv Shakti point will be a symbol of unity from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari. He believes it will inspire future generations in the direction of the use of science for the welfare of humanity. “Tiranga (tricolor) is afloat on every home, in every heart and now on the Moon. What else could be the name of the point? The point on the Moon where Chandrayaan Mission-2 left traces would be called Tiranga.”

The prime minister highlighted that the Tiranga Point will serve as an inspiration. “It will be a symbol that will tell failure is not an end. It will also be a testimonial to the fact that if you are committed success is guaranteed. The Chandrayaan-3 Mission has inspired the whole generation and imbibed spirit.”

On Friday, India’s President Droupadi Murmu hailed the unprecedented success of the scientists of India which has made India the first country to reach the South Pole of the Moon. She expressed confidence that through the Chandrayaan-3 mission new information would be obtained from the lunar land which would benefit the whole world.

Meanwhile, the ISRO said all planned rover movements have been verified. “The rover has successfully traversed a distance of about 8 meters. Rover payloads LIBS and APXS are turned on. All payloads on the propulsion module, lander module, and rover are performing nominally.”

It should be noted that a two-segment ramp facilitated the roll-down of the rover. A solar panel enabled the rover to generate power.
