PM Modi addresses nation to mark 1 billion vaccination milestone, urges to “make masks a part of life”

Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation today to mark the country reaching a milestone of 1 billion vaccinations. PM Modi said during his regular “Mann ki Baat” televised conversation with the mass, that this is just not a regular number but rather exemplifies the ‘new India’. He added that with upcoming Diwali and other festivals, we cannot put our guard down and be extra cautious. PM urged that masks should be made a critical part of our lifestyle now.

Congratulating every citizen for this achievement, Modi said it was possible due to team effort by the entire country and marked “the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the country”. PM Modi said, “India has administered over 1 billion Covid-19 vaccine doses till October 21. Behind this is the power of 130 crore people. So, it’s an achievement of our nation, every one of us. It’s not just a number, it’s the reflection of this country’s ability.”

“Everyone is comparing India to other countries but remember India’s starting point was different. The other countries have always participated in medicine and vaccination for a long time and everyone questioned whether India will be able to do the needful. 100 crore vaccine jabs is an answer to all the questions.”

Taking a dig at how people mocked India’s approach towards pandemics with positivity, PM said, “People said how taali thalli will help eradicate the virus. But it was a reflection of people’s participation and capacity. This success reflects the important place of technology that not even big nations have today. Our entire vaccine program is a result of technology. It is science-born, science-driven, and science-based. Science and scientific approach are at the heart of it.”

Prime Minister Modi underlined that no ‘VIP culture’ was a part of India’s vaccination drive. “For us, democracy means Sabka Saath. Everyone was taken along. If the virus does not discriminate, then vaccination also shouldn’t. So, there was no VIP culture allowed in vaccination.”

Thursday marked a great milestone for India’s vaccination drive with the administration of the 1 billionth vaccine against Covid-19. According to the government data, three-quarters of adults have been vaccinated with at least one dose while 30 per cent have been fully vaccinated.
