PM Mitra Scheme Receives Support From 10 Indian States

Delhi – The Indian Cabinet has approved the PM Mitra scheme that will help set up seven integrated textile parks at the cost of Rs. 4445 crores, confirmed official statement from government sources states.

Union Textile Minister Piyush Goyal has said that as of now 10 states in India have agreed to come onboard with the plan. These include Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Assam, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana are among the states which have shown interest in the scheme.

The Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (MITRA) project is a part of the 2021-22 union budget. Under this plan, a special purpose vehicle, owned by state government and Centre, in public-private partnership mode is to be developed. The parks will be set up at greenfield and brownfield sites in willing states.

In a formal press release, the government has stated that “Proposals of state governments having ready availability of contiguous and encumbrance-free land parcel of 1,000+ acres along with other textiles related facilities and ecosystem are welcome.” From its send, the Centre plans to provide financial assistance of upto Rs. 500 crore each to greenfield parks and up to Rs 200 crore each for brownfield parks under the scheme for the development of common infrastructure. Besides this, it will also pool in Rs. 300 crores as Competitiveness Incentive Support (CIS) to each PM MITRA Park to speed up the establishment of textile manufacturing units.

The textile parks will have an incubation center and plug & play facility, developed factory sites, roads, power, water and wastewater system, common processing house, and other related facilities, like design center, testing centers. They will also have support infrastructures like workers’ hostels & housing, logistics park, warehousing, medical facilities and training, and skill development facilities.
