Types of Ancestors (Pitru):

According to ancient texts, there are two types of ancestors: Divine Pitru and Human Pitru. Divine Pitrus judge the actions of humans while Human Pitrus are the souls of deceased relatives. Lord Aryama is said to be the leader of the Pitrus, and Yamaraj, the god of death, is their judge.

How to Offer Food to Ancestors:

The act of offering water to ancestors is called Tarpan. You can take a blade of Kusha grass, fold your hands, and recite the mantra: “Om Aagachantu Me Pitara Evam Grihantu JalaanJalim.” Slowly pour water using your thumb 5-7 times on the ground, which is believed to satisfy the ancestors.
