The match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders saw a lot of firsts in the Indian Premier League hosted by the United Arab Emirates.
The clash especially gained reactions because of a low scoring total where the team from Kolkata only managed 84/8 of 20 overs, which was easily chased by the team led by Virat Kohli in 14 overs.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ score was the lowest score in IPL history for a team without being declared all out. But apart from this, there is one player who needs to be credited for stopping Kolkata to 84 and that is Mohammed Siraj.
Even though Siraj has been one of the most expensive bowlers in IPL’s history, his team has been considering him every year because of his wicket taking abilities. Yesterday, the bowler proved his metal and proved why captain Kohli trusts the bowler. He delivered two maiden overs of which he was able to get three wickets.
The bowler was unable to get a hat trick but managed to get some of the crucial wickets starting off with Rahul Tripathi, who has been explosive with the bat. This was followed by Nitish Rana, a batsman who was severely out of form and has been confused with his playing style since the start of the IPL and this day was no better. After getting the wickets of these two bowlers, Siraj got his third wicket in his second over where he took a big wicket of young Tom Banton who was on a hitting spree in Navdeep Saini’s first over.
After the low scoring total and bluder of a game by the Kolakat Knight Riders, the social media was flooded with memes mocking the players from Kolkata. Most of the memes targeted the ignorant nature of KKR batsmen while facing RCB bowlers.
Captain Kohli was more than happy with his team’s performance and expressed a lot of confidence in his team but he said that a lot of people take his team lightly. In the post match presentation, the Indian team captain admitted that people do not have a very positive perception about Bengaluru but he and his teammates are confident of the team’s performance this year.
“The management has brought in a proper culture. We have a plan A, we have a plan B, and people are executing it that’s why it’s looking good. Contrary to the public belief, I don’t think a lot of people have belief in RCB. I do, guys in the changeroom do and that’s all that matters,” he said. Incidentally, a few days ago, former Indian team player Yuvraj Singh had tweeted saying that Delhi Captains and Mumbai Indians are favourites among this year’s team to which Yuzvendar Chahal, RCB bowler, replied that if that is the case, should they come back to India? Though the banter was a fun and witty argument, RCB fans were definitely not happy with the comment especially after Bengaluru performing well in this year’s IPL.
