Some passengers onboard Air India B787-800 aircraft VT-ANY operating flight AI-302 from Delhi-Sydney sustained injuries after the plane encountered severe turbulence mid-air Tuesday, officials informed.
Sources say none of the injuries reported in the incident were serious, and that the passengers were immediately offered medical assistance upon arrival at the Sydney airport. According to aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), no passenger was hospitalised.
Seven passengers raised concerns over minor sprain following the turbulence. But cabin crew swiftly provided first aid with the help of a nurse and a doctor travelling on the flight, using an onboard first aid kit, PTI quoted an official as saying.
Air India is yet to deliver a statement on the incident.
In another similar case, last year in May, 12 passengers onboard a Mumbai-Durgapur SpiceJet flight sustained injuries after the aircraft encountered major turbulence during its descent. Unfortunately, one of the injured persons succumbed to his injuries several months later.
