Parsi New Year 2022: Navroz Celebration In The Honor Of King Jamshed

India is celebrating ‘Parsi New Year 2022’ as ‘Navroz’ today. Navroz is celebrated in the honor of King Jamshed. Here is the history & significance of this celebration. 

Today is Navroz, the event marking the Parsi New Year for this year. In Persian, the words for new and day are Nav and Roz, respectively. Other names for Navroz are Jamshedi Navroz, Nowroj, and Pateti.

The first of January is New Year’s Day worldwide, as per the Hindi calendar. Contrarily, in Hinduism, the new year is observed during the Chaitra month. Similarly, Navroz is observed on this day in accordance with the Parsi calendar.

Jamshedi Navroz is another name for Navroz as Jamshed was the name of the great Persian emperor who instituted the usage of the solar calendar.

Two Days of Parsi New Year Celebration

This holiday, which is also held half yearly and annually on August 16 and March 21, is widely observed twice a year in numerous locations. 

On March 21, the first day of the first month of the Parsi calendar, members of the Parsi community around the world celebrate this holiday. 

The Shahanshahi Panchang is followed by the Parsis in India. They celebrate on August 16th because of this.

History of Navroz (Parsi New Year)

For the past 30,000 years, the Parsi community has celebrated Navroz. King Jamshed of Persia is remembered during this event. 

The Zoroastrian calendar is thought to have been started by the warrior Jamshed. He also ascended to the throne on this day.

This is why this day is annually observed with much fanfare. Jamshed-e-Nauroz is another name for the celebration of the Parsi New Year.

How To Celebrate Navroz?

Early in the morning on this day, members of the Parsi community cook a variety of foods and serve them to their friends and family. They also exchange gifts with one another in addition to this. 

On the day of Navroz, it is believed that honoring King Jamshed and giving presents always results in happiness in the home.
