Parliament Monsoon Session Begins Today. What Should You Expect?

The Monsoon Session of Parliament has begun, and it will last till August 11 with a total of 17 sittings. The government plans to discuss 31 bills during this session, some of which are already introduced in the lower house and referred to joint committees.

The monsoon session of Parliament has begun with opposition parties raising various important issues such as Manipur violence, railway safety, unemployment, inflation, India-China border status, and trade balance.

The all-party meeting held prior to the session aimed at ensuring a smooth session with the participation of 34 parties & 44 leaders.

One of the bills on the government’s agenda is the data protection bill, which aims to safeguard citizens’ personal information.

The opposition, comprising a coalition of 26 parties, has demanded a debate on the Manipur issue and insisted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi address the matter.

The government has agreed to discuss the subject but is not willing to accept any unfair or selfish conditions.

Among the 31 bills to be considered, some are related to checking film piracy, introducing age-based categories for censor certification, and establishing the National Research Foundation.

During the session, the first few days will be conducted in the old building of the Parliament House, while members will gradually shift to the new building midway through the sessions.

The tension has escalated in Manipur’s hills due to a horrifying incident where two women from one community were paraded naked by men from the opposing side.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) is planning a protest march to bring attention to the plight of the victims.

The police have registered a case against unknown armed miscreants for abduction, gangrape, and murder, and are making efforts to arrest the culprits.

The ITLF is demanding that the central and state governments, National Commission for Women, and National Commission for Scheduled Tribes take action against the offenders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi deeply condemned the situation and assured the nation that no guilty will be spared. What happened with the daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven. The culprits will face the law and be sentenced strictly.
