New Budget Session Starts in Indian Parliament

The Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Parliament of India, began its session. Here is all that happened in the lower house:

1. Economic Survey: A mega report on how the economy of India has been performing was shared by the government. This report takes stock of what could potentially go on at this time of the year.

2. Leak of Exam Paper: Some members of Parliament got outraged over the issue concerning one of the gigantic medical exams. They shouted that exam papers had been leaked, meaning that some people got to see the questions before the test. This is not fair to other students.

3. Olympic Games Discussion: The Lok Sabha took up a discussion on the country’s preparation for the Olympic Games in Paris. Some members felt that it was not the appropriate time to take up this subject since the Indian team had already left for Paris.

4. Indian Sports Issues: Some members raised various issues about Indian sports. They expressed concern over the allegations of some women wrestlers about their ill-treatment at the hands of their bosses.

Highlights of the Rajya Sabha (Upper House)

India’s upper house of parliament, the Rajya Sabha, too had its first day. Here’s what they did:

1. Economic Survey: Just like in the Lok Sabha, the big report on India’s economy was shared here too.

2. Water Issues: Questions were asked regarding what measures should be taken to improve water supply in homes and increase subterranean water.

3. Anything else: The members talked about all kinds of things. Some were lamenting the increasing prices of cell phone plans and airfares. Others were demanding new hospitals or train lines to reach their hometowns.
