Opposition Parties Offer Full Support To Israeli Govt Amid Hamas Attacks

The Israeli opposition has shown rare unity by supporting the current government during the Hamas attacks. Can India learn this lesson from Israel?

In response to the Hamas attacks in Israel, the Israeli Air Force carried out a befitting operation on Monday. They targeted various buildings where leaders of the terrorist organization Hamas were staying.

According to the Israeli Air Force, they launched attacks on headquarters located in three-story buildings and also on the main headquarters associated with senior naval commander of Hamas, Mohammad Kastha.

Additionally, the Air Force destroyed a property used by the terrorist organization, which was situated at the center of a mosque in the Jabalia area.

The Israeli Air Force shared this on social media, saying, “The Air Force launched an attack on a building where leaders of the terrorist organization Hamas were staying. They also targeted several headquarters of the terrorist organization.”

One of these headquarters was spread across three floors and was connected to senior naval forces of Hamas, Mohammad Kastha.

Furthermore, a property used by the terrorist organization Hamas, located at the center of a mosque in Jabalia, was also destroyed.

But the world got to see a surprising part in Israel, even the opposition parties and people who usually disagree with the government are coming together to support it.

The leader of the opposition, Yair Lapid, isn’t criticizing the government at all. In fact, he’s offering his full support, and he’s even ready to help run the country during this tough time.

And that’s not all – the former Israeli Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, has joined the reserve forces. He’s ready to take action if it’s needed. It’s pretty amazing to see this kind of unity in a time of crisis.

Now, you might be wondering if something like this could ever happen in our country, India. Well, the answer is a bit complicated.

In the past, during wars in 1962 and 1971, even though people had issues with how the government was handling things, the opposition, led by the Bharatiya Jan Sangh (now BJP or Bharatiya Janata Party), stood by the government and promised to help in every way. They put the country before politics.

There’s also a lesser-known story about Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who led a unique protest when China attacked our consulate in Beijing. He surrounded the Chinese embassy in New Delhi with sheep to protest against the Chinese Communist Party.

But when it comes to the Congress party, things get a bit different. During the Kargil War, they didn’t support the government and instead criticized it. They even stopped celebrating “Kargil Vijay Diwas” after they came to power in 2004, calling the war “BJP’s war.”

So, while we’ve seen some unity in tough times in India, it’s not always the case. Some political groups can be pretty opportunistic.

In Israel, their unity during this crisis teaches us a valuable lesson. But in India, achieving that level of unity might be a bit tricky because of how our politics works. Still, it’s something we should aim for, especially when it comes to our national security.
