Curious to know how the Uttar Pradesh police executed Operation Jhansi to corner Asad Ahmed, son of criminal-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed? Read full incident here!
In the wake of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath‘s strong statement in the assembly on February 25th, promising to “turn this mafia to dust,” the state police have taken swift action.
Four individuals linked to the murder case of Umesh Pal have been gunned down by the police, with the latest being Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad Ahmed and his associate Ghulam Hasan.
According to reports, Thursday’s operation in Jhansi was the outcome of careful and thorough planning.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, they have been informed that Asad and his accomplice Ghulam were plotting an attack on the police convoy transporting Atiq Ahmed to his court hearing in the Umesh Pal murder case.
The notorious gangster-turned-politician was reportedly being brought to Uttar Pradesh when the alleged plan was uncovered. The UP Special Task Force successfully foiled the plan.
Teams of civil police and special forces have been deployed in Uttar Pradesh, following intelligence inputs of a plan to free a prisoner.
As per the state’s special director general (law and order), Prashant Kumar, the operation was launched after receiving information about Asad’s plan to release his father.
According to Kumar, two teams were dispatched and successfully intercepted Asad and his accomplice Ghulam while they were riding a motorcycle.
He said the Special Task Force (STF) carried out an operation based on received information. The operation resulted in the death of two individuals due to retaliatory firing between 12:30 pm and 1pm. The STF was responsible for conducting the entire operation.
The Special Task Force (STF) had been closely monitoring the situation in Jhansi, as they had received information that Guddu Muslim, a close associate of Atiq Ahmed and a suspect in the Umesh Pal murder case, was hiding out in the forest area near the Parichha power plant.
The encounter that occurred a kilometer away from this location was a result of this intelligence.
According to a senior police official, a strategic move was made to distract attention from the transfer of Atiq Ahmed to Prayagraj.
Heavy force was stationed near Jhansi border starting April 11, while a specialized police team in plainclothes conducted surveillance near Guddu’s hideout.
In a covert operation, a team was dispatched to the vicinity of the Parichha power plant with the aid of surveillance and technical support from their headquarters.
Led by a high-ranking officer with the designation of Deputy Inspector General (DIG), the team made its way forward.
According to an officer quoted by ToI, there was a night activity observed at the hideout of Guddu Muslim on April 12. This prompted the authorities to station teams near the four routes.
Following the incident, a team donning bulletproof jackets was assigned to confront any potential threats head-on. Meanwhile, another team was charged with surveying potential escape routes to nearby districts and conducting inspections.
