Omicron fear: Section 144 imposed in Mumbai for the next 48 hours

Mumbai -As Omicron cases are increasing in Maharashtra, section 144 has been imposed in Mumbai for today and tomorrow. Mumbai deputy commissioner of police imposed section 144 in the city for the next two days. Rallies and protest marches are also not allowed in Mumbai.

The decision to impose section 144 was taken because of the recent violence that took place in certain areas of Maharashtra. Another reason for imposing section 144 was the rally, which was planned by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party.

Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM Chief was likely to attend the meeting. Police denied permission for the rally and an order was issued keeping in view the Omicron variant of COVID-19. A total number of 17 Omicron cases was reported in Maharashtra. As per the report by India Today, a three-year-old has also been affected by the new variant. The total tally of cases is the highest in any state in India.

What does the order say?

According to the Press Trust of India, the order, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police stated, “It has been issued to prevent danger to human life from the new Omicron variant of COVID-19.” Reportedly, the three new patients from Mumbai were all men, aged 48, 25, and 37 years with a recent history of travel to Tanzania, the UK, and South Africa. Recently, the United Kingdom reported 817 cases of the new variant of Covid-19.  The Omicron covid variant is much deadlier than other variants. It is also spreading faster than the other variants. People who are vaccinated are also getting infected by this new variant.

The order further stated the recent violence that took place in Amravati, Malegaon, and Nanded. Police said that action will be taken against the violators. They will be punished under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
