Olympics 2021: Olympic medalist Sudhil Kumar and Gagan Narang attended the meeting of the parliamentary committee to talk about the medal preparedness of the athletes and their preparations for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, postponed to 2021, and further improvement in their respective sports.

On Wednesday, the two celebrated sports personalities met with the parliamentary standing committee, which is essentially formed to monitor and, ife necessary, assist the athletes for next year’s Olympics. The committee that comes under the Ministry of Human Resource and Development is headed by Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe. Last few months have seen him being immensely involved in monitoring the readiness of the players.

While talking to the PTI, the silver medalist in the Olympics, Gagan Narang said, “We have shared our views, from the athlete’s perspective, on what needs to be done to ensure our preparations are great heading into the Tokyo Olympics.” He is known for his exemplary performance in the 2012 London Olympics.

The shooter further added that both him and Sushil Kumar have shared their experience for training of the players. “We expressed our views on 2021 and beyond and generally about Indian sports. Both Sushil and I have represented India in multiple Olympics and shared the cumulative experience of having played in seven-eight Games.”

Sushil Kumar has been one of the best medal hopes in Wrestling for India. This year, the 37-year-old wrestler, who also is a two-time Olympic champion, could not make the Olympic cut. Nevertheless, he has one more year to prepare and an abundance of experience to share it with the youngsters.

Kumar along with Narang posed for a picture soon after their interaction with members of the parliamentary standing committee. They met with all the concerned members in Delhi at the Parliament House Annexe where earlier, the National Sports Federation presented their prospects. The presentation included five of the sports disciplines that are considered as the strongest medal prospects for the Olympics.

In the last edition of the Olympic games, India had a poor display as far the number of medals on the points table was concerned. It could only manage a silver from PV Sindhu in Badminton and a bronze by Sakshi Malik in Wrestling. However, one cannot neglect the fact the silver won by PV sindhu was a historic moment for India as she became the first shuttler from the country to win a Silver medal at the Olympics.

The Olympics will be held in Tokyo as scheduled for 2020. The President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, has advised all the athletes to get ‘vaccinated for better health’.
