Odisha To Host FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 With ₹1,100 Budget

The Odisha government is going to spend ₹1,100 crore for hosting FIH (International Hockey Federation) Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023.

The Odisha government anticipates spending close to Rs 1,100 crore to host the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup in January 2023.

Only Rs 66.98 crore was spent on hosting during the most recent Hockey World Cup by the state government. The expenditure has been increased this time by a factor of 16 to Rs 1,098.40 crore.

The Kalinga Hockey stadium in Bhubaneswar served as the venue for the 2018 World Cup games.

But this time, Bhubaneswar will share hosting duties with the newly built Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.

Official sources claim that the state is investing Rs 1,010 crore of the total sum of Rs 1,098.40 crore in the construction of the Birsa Munda Hockey stadium and the surrounding area.

The new stadium in Rourkela, which is nearing completion, is receiving the largest expenditure of Rs 875.78 crore. Buildings for housing are being built with an investment of Rs 84 crore.

While in Rourkela, Rs 10.50 crore was spent on the development of the surrounding area, and Rs 13 crore was spent on electrical work at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium.

In addition, the government has given Hockey India Rs 17.50 crore for the installation of artificial turf in the stadiums in Rourkela and Bhubaneswar.

In order to ensure that this important event is even larger and better than its previous iteration, the state government has been endorsing the national hockey teams since 2018.

The 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup will take place in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to January 29.
