Odisha planning to launch bus services to Bada Char Dham soon

The eastern state of Odisha has pretty great information for all the Hindu pilgrims there. The government is preparing to soon run bus services to Bada Char Dham – the four Hindu pilgrimage sites across the country, according to Bibhuti Bhushan Jena.

Speaking to the media, the commerce and transport minister noted the Odisha government’s plans to begin bus services from Puri to Tirupati, Mathura and Brundaban. Subsidy is going to be provided in the prices of tickets for pilgrims and female passengers.

Permissions in this regard have already been obtained and routes have been selected, Jena mentioned. He highlighted that the bus service is expected to start before the beginning of 2025. Special buses have also been brought for this purpose.

Understanding Bada Char Dham and Chota Char Dham

Chardhams is a set of four holy pilgrimage locations in India, and a complete journey covers all four directions of the country. If Hindu belief is taken into consideration, one can attain Moksha by visiting the four destinations once in their lifetime.

It is also believed that Lord Vishnu takes his bath at Rameswaram Dham in the south, meditates at Badrinath Dham in the north, dines at Puri Jagannath Dham in the east, and retires at Dwarkadhish Dham in the west.

There is also a set of Chota Char Dham located in the Himalayas in the northern state of Uttarakhand, including Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. These high-altitude shrines remain shut for around six months annually, opening in summers.
