NPCI And Thomas Cook Launch RuPay Forex Card For UAE

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Thomas Cook (India) Ltd have launched India’s first RuPay prepaid forex card for Indians traveling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This card, called the Thomas Cook RuPay Card, will be available as a pilot in the UAE and will eventually be rolled out globally. The card’s technology will be enabled by CARD91.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had previously allowed banks to issue RuPay forex cards in June. The RBI governor, Shaktikanta Das, stated that these cards will expand payment options for Indians traveling abroad and increase the reach of RuPay cards.

In the first phase of the launch, the Thomas Cook RuPay Card will be loaded with UAE Dirhams (AED). This will allow users to make transactions and withdraw cash from ATMs in the UAE.

This partnership between Thomas Cook and RuPay operates on NPCI’s global card payment network of India. The initiative aims to provide international payment solutions for Indians traveling overseas.

The Thomas Cook RuPay Card offers several benefits to travelers. It includes Thomas Cook travel vouchers worth Rs 13,900, lounge access at international airports in India, free ATM withdrawal in the UAE, and free replacement if the card is lost.

Additionally, the card provides complimentary insurance cover up to Rs 7,50,000.00. Cardholders can also enjoy a 50% discount on unique photographic experiences at Dubai’s top attractions through Digiphoto Entertainment Imaging (DEI). Furthermore, customers will earn KrisFlyer miles on every forex purchase made with the card.

The NPCI said, “As travel demand returns to normal, Indian tourists will soon have access to a myriad of enticing benefits and rewards offered by this card. Our goal with the RuPay Forex card is to create an unparalleled end-to-end consumer experience for Indian travelers.”

Ajay Pandey, the CEO and co-founder of CARD91 stated, “We are excited to partner with NPCI and Thomas Cook (India) for the launch of the RuPay Forex Card powered by CARD91’s highly configurable and state-of-the-art technology platform.”
