North Korea & South Korea Fires Missiles At Each Other’s Coasts

North & South Korea have launched numerous missiles into the oceans close to one another’s coasts. They urged the Japanese citizens to stay inside.

On Wednesday, North Korea fired at least 25 missiles into the sea off its east and west coasts.

One of these missiles sailed close to South Korean waters and raised the alarm for an air raid on an inhabited island, where residents took cover. That many missiles were fired by the North for the first time in a single day.

In retaliation, South Korea fired missiles from jet fighters into waters close to the territory of the North.

The South’s defense ministry claimed that although all of the missiles landed into international waters, the clash represented the first time missiles had been fired across the maritime border between the Koreas.

The military issued an air-raid alert after one of the North’s missiles hit Ulleung, an island off the east coast of South Korea with a population of around 9,000.

The top director of operations for the South Korean military, Lieutenant General Kang Shin Chul, referred to the launch as “an extremely uncommon and terrible conduct.”

According to Chung Young-hwan, a local official on Ulleung, “the siren started screaming at 8:55 am (local time) and we got a notification from our government mainframe saying that this is “a real-life emergency”,” not a mock rehearsal.

Before leaving the underground shelter again, we hid there for 3 or 4 minutes.

Chung claimed that despite the island-wide siren being activated, the cause was not immediately disclosed to the locals.

When we watched news flashes, we “knew that it was a North Korean missile,” he claimed.

Later, the military of the South claimed that three missiles shot by its fighter jets into territorial waters not far from the North’s own waters.

At least 23 missiles were fired by the North in a single day, including one that came down less than 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the city of Sokcho in the South.

Warplanes from Seoul fired three air-to-ground missiles in retaliation over the controversial maritime demarcation line. Later, Pyongyang launched 100 artillery shells and another six missiles.
