One of the most talked-about and popular names of the smartphone world, BlackBerry, has decided to call its plug on the service.
The company was once one of the most famous smartphone brands and the decrease in its popularity only came after the iPhone in the market.
The phones are also known to have been the favorites by most executives, politicians, and legions of fans in the early 2000s. With this, the brand has also ended an era in the market. The most notable features of these phones were the tiny QWERTY physical keyboard, pioneered push email, and the BBM instant messaging service.
One of the most loyal users of the smartphone was former United States President Barack Obama. He made headlines in 2016 when he was asked by some of the top officials to give up his BlackBerry and use some other smartphone, the name of which was not revealed.
The smartphone company was a favorite among the youth for its easy-to-use messaging tools but with the advent of Apple’s touchscreen phone, these smartphones started to lose their charm.
The company had to then focus on other areas and hence they decided to attempt with the cybersecurity software and embedded operating systems for cars.
Soon after the announcement by the company, social media saw many people stepping up and giving a tribute to the brand. One of the Twitter users wrote that the smartphone produced by the company was indeed a fabulous machine while also hoping that the brand comes up with other models and resurrects the phone in coming years.
