Nitish used support of Aishwarya Rai, Lalu’s daughter-in-law to hit back at RJD leader

On Wednesday, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad’s estranged daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai, entered the scene of Bihar elections by campaigning for Yadav’s rival and Janta Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar. Rai, who was married to RJD leader’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, split from the family on account of domestic violence. Her divorce case is still pending in court.

Much to everyone’s surprise, she rallied with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at Parsa in Saran district, from where her father Chandrika Rai is contesting. Chandrika Rai is a veteran MLA, who is the son of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Prasad Rai. Chandrika was earlier a member of the RJD but following an ugly divorce battle with RJD leader, he switched to JD(U) this year.

After arriving on the stage, Aishwarya touched Bihar CM’s feet and urged everyone to bring victory the party and her father. Announcing her dramatic entry into politics with her short speech, she said, “I will appeal to you to ensure the victory of my father Chandrika Rai and ensure Nitish Kumar continues as chief minister.” “I have come to demand votes from all of you for my father. It is a matter of honour for Parsa assembly constituency. And very soon I will also come,” she added.

After Aishwarya’s speech, a few slogans favouring Lalu were raised the crowd, but Nitish was quick to hit back and said, “Your activities will not help the person at whose behest you have come. What has happened is shameful — insult of a woman by a family.” He added that she had the legacy of late Daroga Prasad Rai behind her.

Using Aishwarya’s broken and abusive marriage as a ground to call down RJD leader, Nitish said that the family treated an educated girl like in an inappropriate manner and his party stood for dignity and justice to all. Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, who is leading the party in the absence of Lalu, who currently serving his tenure in jail in connection with the fodder scam, criticised Nitish for dragging family issues in politics.
