Nirmala Sitharaman Gives A Befitting Reply To Mahua Moitra

TMC leader Mahua Mitra had mocked the central government by using ‘Pappu jibe’ & ‘Machis jibe’. But The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave a befitting reply to her.

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded to Mahua Moitra of Trinamool Congress Party on 14th December 2022. 

This came a day after Moitra took a ‘machis jibe’ at the government, and challenged the authority given to it. 

Nirmala Sitharaman attacked Moitra, stating that it’s not about who holds the matches but who uses the matchstick.

Nirmala Sitharaman, a Lok Sabha member, said “In whose hands is a matchstick? It is possible that she wanted to spice up some of the questions and concerns she raised. 

I will not go into detail because I am trying to answer them in different ways. It is an issue of concern. 

It is not about who gave the matches. Because people in democracy elect their leader. We don’t have to make the people look bad by pointing out who held the matches. It has been given by the people.”

Mahua, who had made Tuesday’s question “Who’s the Pappu now?” into a refrain in Lok Sabha, highlighting the fall of industrial output, the Enforcement Directorate’s dismal conviction rate, and failure to demonetize, making it a propaganda tool that Modi uses to tarnish his political opponents.

Trinamul MP Mahua Moitra asked in Parliament “who’s Pappu now?” It appeared that Mahua Moitra’s question on “who’s Pappu now?” touched a nerve with Narendra Modi’s government. 

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave a befitting reply to TMC leader Moitra on Wednesday “she will find Pappu here in West Bengal.”

“Honourable member Mahua Moitra spoke about where to find Pappu. …. Who is Pappu? Where’s the Pappu? 

In fact, the honorable member can look back in her own backyard to find Pappu there,” Nirmala stated in the Lok Sabha, referring to the post-Assembly election in Bengal last January.

Responding to the debate about the supplementary requests for grants, she said: “So there’s not any doubt (over where Pappu is located).” 

She then accused the Bengal government of snatching “wonderful plans” that would benefit the people.
