Neeraj Chopra Sets New National Record, In Pavo Nurmi Games

Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra set a new national record in the Pavo Nurmi Games (Finland), by throwing 89.03m javelin and broke his own best record.

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who won gold in the Tokyo Olympics, surpassed his own highest record on Tuesday to take home a silver medal at the Pavo Nurmi Games in Finland with a throw of 89.30 meters. 

Earlier, Neeraj had accomplished a national record during the Tokyo Olympics with a throw of 87.58 meters. This throw was the deciding factor in his historic gold medal victory in Tokyo.

Neeraj Chopra Seized Silver

In his second try, Neeraj threw an 89.30, setting a new personal best throw in this, his first event in 10 months. 

His first effort saw him throw 86.92 meters, but his third, fourth, and five tries were ruled ineligible. With his last throw, Neeraj recorded a distance of 85.85 meters. 

Although Neeraj beat his personal record, he had to settle for second place and a silver medal behind Finland’s Olivier Hellander. With 89.93m, Helander won the race.

The previous national mark, which Neeraj Chopra achieved in March of last year in Patiala, was 88.07 meters. On August 7, 2021, he threw 87.58 meters to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Pavo Nurmi Games, Finland

Finland’s premier summer track and field event is the Pavo Nurmi. Since 1957, the Pavo Nurmi Games have included an annual competition. 

The renowned middle & long distance runner from Finland who inspired the Pavo Nurmi Games. One of the most renowned contests outside of Diamond League meets is the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Series event.

Neeraj won’t put himself under strain by attempting to throw a 90-meter javelin.

Winning Attitude Without Pressure

Next Saturday, Chopra will compete in the Korten Games in Finland, where he now resides. On June 30, he will take part in the “Stockholm Leg of the Diamond League.”

Before moving to Finland last month, he received training in the USA and Turkey. During the July 15–24 World Championships in Eugene, USA, Chopra had previously informed the media that he would strive to climb to the top gently and not put himself under pressure to throw more than 90 meters.

Neeraj Fulfilled His Goal

Let us recall that on August 7 of last year, javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, competing in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, won the event by tossing a distance of 87.58 meters. 

No athlete has ever been able to accomplish this feat in a track and field competition until Neeraj. By earning the gold medal, Neeraj Chopra made history and filled millions of Indians with joy. 

In an interview, Neeraj Chopra stated that he wanted to be able to throw the javelin up to 90 meters. Neeraj will rank among the top throwers in the world, he claimed, if he can accomplish this.
