Neeraj Chopra Clinches Diamond League Title After Injury

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra made a remarkable comeback after a one-month injury lay-off, securing the top spot in the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League. This victory marked his second consecutive win of the season in this prestigious one-day meeting series.

Chopra had previously missed three important events due to a muscle strain he suffered while training.

However, he returned with a bang and claimed the Diamond League title with an impressive fifth-round throw of 87.66m.

The 25-year-old athlete started with a foul but then recorded throws of 83.52m and 85.04m. He had another foul in the fourth round before unleashing his winning throw of 87.66m. His final throw measured 84.15m.

Germany’s Julian Weber secured the second position with a best throw of 87.03m, while Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic finished third with an 86.13m effort.

Notably, Chopra had also won the Lausanne leg in August of the previous year, capturing his first Diamond League title. He went on to win the Diamond League trophy in the grand finale a month later.

This season, he had already started on a high note by winning the season-opening Diamond League meeting in Doha with a throw of 88.67m.

Neeraj Chopra, with a personal best of 89.94m, demonstrated his resilience and skill by making a successful comeback after his injury.

His performance in Lausanne reaffirmed his status as an elite javelin thrower and showcased his ability to compete at the highest level.

In the men’s long jump, Indian athlete Murali Sreeshankar finished 5th with a jump of 7.88 meters, which fell short of his personal best.

Sreeshankar had recently ranked the 3rd spot in the Paris leg of the Diamond League, which was his first podium finish in the series.

However this performance in Lausanne was below expectations as he had previously achieved an impressive 8.41 meters jump during the National Inter-State Championships in Bhubaneswar, Orissa.
