NCP’s Ajit Pawar Joins Maharashtra Government. Will Party Collapse?

The political landscape in Maharashtra has been thrown into turmoil with the dramatic defection of Ajit Pawar, the nephew of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar.

Ajit Pawar has joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government as the Deputy Chief Minister, causing a vertical split within the NCP.

The NCP has reacted strongly to the defection, submitting a petition to the Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly seeking the disqualification of Ajit Pawar and eight other party leaders who took oath as ministers in the Shiv Sena-BJP government. The NCP argues that their actions constitute a voluntary renunciation of party membership.

The NCP has also written to the Election Commission of India, affirming that Sharad Pawar remains the party’s leader and requesting the commission to hear their side before taking any action based on Ajit Pawar’s claims.

Ajit Pawar, on the other hand, asserts that he has the support of the majority of NCP MLAs and has staked claim to the party’s name and symbol. He plans to approach the Election Commission to establish his position as the authentic NCP.

Sharad Pawar has responded by stating that he will build new leadership within the party, emphasizing that there are no family problems.

Supriya Sule, the daughter of Sharad Pawar and NCP’s working president, has expressed her love for Ajit Pawar despite their differing views.

The Congress party, while monitoring the situation, has signaled support for Sharad Pawar, with leader Prithviraj Chavan asserting that Sharad Pawar will put up a fight, at least in the people’s court. Congress is also making efforts to keep its legislators united.

The defection of Ajit Pawar and other NCP MLAs has left the Maharashtra government in a state of flux. The Shiv Sena-BJP government currently holds a majority, but the stability of the government remains uncertain, as more defections could occur. The situation has also impacted the political landscape in Bihar, where the ruling coalition includes the NCP.

As the disqualification petition is being heard and the political scenario remains fluid, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the future of the Maharashtra government and the NCP.

As of now, it is difficult to predict the future of the Maharashtra administration. The ruling Shiv Sena-BJP party may stabilize in the next few weeks. Or it may also happen that the power will collapse and there will be fresh elections.
