NCERT Clarifies On Dropping Chapters On Mughals, Delhi Sultanate

NCERT has dismissed claims of political bias over the removal of chapters on the Mughal era, Delhi Sultanate, Gujarat riots & Indira Gandhi’s Emergency.

According to sources, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), which is in charge of creating and publishing India’s school textbooks, has eliminated any references to the Mughal era, the Delhi Sultanate, the Emergency, and the Gujarat riots from social science textbooks for classes six through twelve. 

Hrushikesh Senapaty, the director of NCERT, has rejected these accusations, calling them “completely false.”

Senapaty emphasized that NCERT textbooks go through an exhaustive review procedure that includes a panel of experts, and that any adjustments made are done with the goal of giving students accurate and impartial information. 

He was concerned that the NCERT is dedicated to giving all students a high-quality education, and that its textbooks represent this dedication.

Concerns regarding the politicization of education in India have been raised in response to news about changes to NCERT textbooks. 

Through these amendments, the government is allegedly seeking to repress opposing viewpoints and advance a particular ideology, according to critics. 

The adjustments, however, have been defended by government supporters who claim that they are important to correct historical errors and offer a fair picture of Indian history.

The controversy over NCERT’s textbook modifications serves as a reminder of the difficulties in creating educational resources that are impartial, accurate, and pertinent to students’ needs. 

Additionally, it emphasizes the value of safeguarding academic freedom and making sure that political propaganda is not spread through the use of education.

It’s critical to make sure that politics are kept out of education and that it doesn’t serve to spread any particular viewpoints. 

It is also crucial to design instructional resources that are founded on in-depth research, a commitment to accuracy, and objectivity, as well as to deliver high-quality instruction that represents the needs and variety of all students.
