NCB Busts Dark-Web & Crypto Based Drugs Trafficking Network

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized the largest-ever LSD worth billions. The pan-India drug cartel was operating through dark web & cryptocurrencies.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in India has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking by busting a darknet-based drug cartel.

The NCB announced on Tuesday that it has seized the largest-ever quantity of LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) worth thousands of crores (tens of billions) of rupees.

The drug syndicate was operating through the dark web, using cryptocurrencies for their transactions.

LSD, a synthetic chemical-based drug, has become a growing concern for authorities due to its potential dangers to both individuals and society.

The NCB’s successful operation highlights the gravity of the situation and the need to tackle drug trafficking on multiple fronts, including the dark web.

Dark web, an encrypted and anonymous part of the internet, allows criminals to carry out illicit activities, including drug trafficking, with a greater level of anonymity.

The NCB’s investigation into the drug cartel operating through the dark web signifies the agency’s efforts to crack down on these hidden networks and disrupt their operations.

The use of cryptocurrencies for transactions further complicates law enforcement’s ability to trace and identify individuals involved in drug trafficking.

Cryptocurrencies provide a certain level of anonymity and make it challenging for authorities to follow the money trail.

The NCB’s seizure of LSD and the revelation of the dark web and cryptocurrency connections underscore the evolving nature of drug trafficking methods.

The Indian government has demonstrated its commitment to combating the drug menace. In March 2023, Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the National Conference of Heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Force of States and Union Territories.

He emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of ‘Zero Tolerance’ against drugs and the goal of achieving a drug-free India by 2047, in the conference.

This recent success follows other notable drug seizures, such as the seizure of a significant amount of methamphetamine worth around Rs 12,000 crore in May 2023.

The NCB and the Indian Navy collaborated to apprehend a Pakistani national in connection with the seizure, marking it as the largest methamphetamine seizure in the country.

The NCB is continuously working to eliminate drug networks operating through the dark web and employing cryptocurrencies.

The NCB’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the importance of staying ahead of ever-evolving tactics used by criminals in this illicit trade.
