Nations imposing travel restriction from India amid a surge in Covid cases due to triple variant

India has reported over 2 lakh fresh coronavirus cases for consecutive six days. Seeing the surge, few nations have reacted with travel limitations to and from India which includes; New Zealand, Pakistan, Hong Kong and recently the United Kingdom has also added India to its red list.

Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also canceled his April visit in the wake of rising cases in both the UK and India. The US has also announced a fresh advisory to its citizens to avoid any trip to India.

Following the emergence of double mutation of covid-19, India is facing a continuous surge in cases due to a triple variant, which means three distinctive Covid-19 strains combining to form a new variant.

Researchers believe the new wave globally is caused due to the new variants. States like Delhi, Maharashtra, and West Bengal are considered to have cases surging due to the triple mutant of covid 19.

However, for precautionary measures, Hong Kong announced a 14-day travel restriction from the Philippines, Pakistan, and India as they are high-risk places for coronavirus spread. Those people that spend over two hours during transit in India and the other two nations are barred from traveling to Hong Kong.

New Zealand ordered travel restrictions from India after it found 23 Covid-19 cases among travelers flying from outside recently. Around 17 among them were positive for the Indian variant of SARS-CoV-2. This prompted a decision to ban travel from India.
