India has reported over 2 lakh fresh coronavirus cases for consecutive six days. Seeing the surge, few nations have reacted with travel limitations to and from India which includes; New Zealand, Pakistan, Hong Kong and recently the United Kingdom has also added India to its red list.
Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also canceled his April visit in the wake of rising cases in both the UK and India. The US has also announced a fresh advisory to its citizens to avoid any trip to India.
Following the emergence of double mutation of covid-19, India is facing a continuous surge in cases due to a triple variant, which means three distinctive Covid-19 strains combining to form a new variant.
Researchers believe the new wave globally is caused due to the new variants. States like Delhi, Maharashtra, and West Bengal are considered to have cases surging due to the triple mutant of covid 19.
However, for precautionary measures, Hong Kong announced a 14-day travel restriction from the Philippines, Pakistan, and India as they are high-risk places for coronavirus spread. Those people that spend over two hours during transit in India and the other two nations are barred from traveling to Hong Kong.
New Zealand ordered travel restrictions from India after it found 23 Covid-19 cases among travelers flying from outside recently. Around 17 among them were positive for the Indian variant of SARS-CoV-2. This prompted a decision to ban travel from India.
The UK added India to the red list of nations affected by a coronavirus. This was announced after PM Boris Johnson canceled his April visit to India. The UK’s travel limitation implies that only British citizens can travel from India to the nation.
Several nations have claimed that travels from India were detected positive for Covid-19 on arrival despite boarding the flight with a “Covid negative” certificate. Canada as of late announced that 33% of the travelers who arrived between March 3 and 19 were tested positive for coronavirus on arrival from New Delhi.
On Monday, the US gave a warning to its citizens who had made plans to travel to India. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said to avoid all travel to India.
“If you should go to India, get completely immunized before leaving,” stated the CDC adding, even completely inoculated travelers could be in danger of contracting or spreading the variant of Covid-19 in India. However, this came a day after the US stated it would advise its citizens to stay away from the trip to about 80% of the world.
