Nantes International Challenge: Ashwini, Tanisha Win Women’s Doubles Title

The Nantes International Challenge 2023 badminton championship was a thrilling finale. India’s Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto duo emerged victorious in the women’s doubles category.

The duo secured their maiden title by defeating the Chinese Taipei pair of Hung En-Tzu and Lin Yu-Pei in straight games.

The Indian shuttlers displayed exceptional skills and determination to clinch the coveted trophy. The win is a significant milestone in their badminton careers and is sure to inspire them to greater heights in the future.

In a recent badminton match, the Indian women’s doubles pair, currently ranked 76th in the BWF rankings, faced off against opponents who are ranked much lower at 416.

The Indian team overcame an early 0-4 deficit to tie the score at 10-10 in their latest match, with an impressive comeback.

They then went on to win the next three points, taking the lead and ultimately securing a victory in the first game with a score of 21-15.

Ashwini and Tanisha displayed dominance in the second game as they won seven consecutive points after being tied at 3-3.

Their impressive performance helped them open up a lead. In a stunning display of dominance, the winning team refused to let their opponents close the gap, ultimately securing a victory with a final score of 21-14.

Tanisha and K. Sai Pratheek were defeated by the Danish duo of Mads Vestergaard and Christine Busch in the mixed doubles final, in a disappointing turn of events for India.

Despite making it to the summit clash after coming through the qualifiers, the Indian pair lost the match in a closely contested battle that lasted for 51 minutes. The final scoreline read 21-14, 14-21, 17-21 in favor of the Danish team.

Sameer Verma from India faced off against Arnaud Merkle from France in the semifinals of the men’s singles, on Saturday. Unfortunately for Verma, he lost in straight games with scores of 21-19 and 21-16.

In an impressive display of skill and determination, Merkle emerged victorious in the final of the tournament, defeating Indonesian qualifier Jason Christ Alexander with a score of 21-18, 21-16.

This hard-fought victory secured Merkle the title and cemented his position as a top player in the sport.

Aditi Bhatt, the Indian women’s singles player, suffered a defeat in the semifinals against Liang Ting Yu from Chinese Taipei.

The match ended with a score of 21-19, 21-17, resulting in Bhatt’s elimination from the tournament. In Sunday’s final, the player from Chinese Taipei was defeated by Indonesia’s Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi.
