In the ongoing Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians registered a strong win over Rajasthan Royals yesterday night.
With this win, Mumbai Indians have registered their fourth win in the tournament taking them on top of the table while Rajasthan Royal keep going down to the second last on the points table. A convincing victory with 57 runs in Abu Dhabi showed that the middle order of the Mumbai Indian is incomparable.
Mumbai started to play defensive when they lost Quinton de Kock during the power play and took minimal risks to get a big score on the scoreboard. It is towards the end of the overs that they smashed 51 of the last four overs to take the total to 193/4.
Rajasthan was caught off guard with the bowling attack of the Mumbai Indians and lost three of their wickets in the first six overs which further cretated pressure on them. Even a sensational knock by Jos Buttler of 70 from 44 balls changed little for the team.
The match started with Rohit Sharma leading the team to win the toss. The team chose to bat first but the top order had a relatively slow start. De Kock and Sharma combined put up 49 runs in the first five overs. It was not until Suryakumar Yadav came into the picture that the team imagined such a total. Yadav was stunning with the bat hitting 79 of just 47 balls.
After his dismissal, Hardik Pandya’s 30 of 19 balls helped the team take the total closer to 200. As for the Rajasthan Royals, Robin Uthappa continued his out of form batting and got dismissed early while Steve Smith and in-form Sanju Samson could not do the magic.
Bumrah was exceptional with the ball taking four wickets of 20 runs. Jasprit Bumrah has been known to rise up to the occasion and not take pressure despite the match but it was Suryakumar Yadav who won the heart of the skipper.
The skipper said that it was time that he had such a knock as he was playing really well in the past games. He added that Yadav’s shot making was perfect. Like the skipper many credited him for his unique playing style which makes it difficult for the bowler to judge.
Apart from that, Steve Smith, captain of Rajasthan Royal was fined for maintaining a slow over rate. He was fined INR 12 lakh yesterday. This was the first offence of the team. The official statement read, “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
