Mukherjee Junior Moves To Trinamool Congress Shunning Congress Party

Congress is losing its grip in the country as more and more youth leaders are changing their loyalties to go elsewhere. The recent one to change its banner is Pranab Mukherjee’s son, Congress MP Abhijit Mukherjee. The former president’s son is gearing up to join the Trinamool Congress.

This has come as a huge blow to the age-old, Gandhian party that has already had to face the embarrassment of losing youth leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada, Himanta Biswa Sarma, etc.

Earlier in the previous months, there had been rumors of Sachin Pilot also has decided to desert the party to which he had rubbished the whole idea of being misled by his first name.

It is worth noting that Abhijit Mukherjee has been a two-term MP in the Lok Sabha in his father’s seat of Jangipur. He is known to have been in talks with the TMC leadership for the past few weeks to make the shift. Abhijit Mukherjee is likely to be inducted into the party later this week by TMC heavyweights at an event in Kolkata sources have said.

It is going to be a matter of public embarrassment, something that Congress cannot overturn or hide.

Whether this will also mean that the junior Mukherjee’s exit could mean someone else in the family also follows suit, is being seen as a possibility. Abhijit Mukherjee’s sister, Sharmishtha Mukherjee is also a Congress leader based in Delhi.

Mr. Mukherjee has been seen praising Mamata Banerjee’s leadership in controlling a recent spat of communal disharmony in West Bengal. Hinting that he may have been disgruntled with the Congress leadership, Mukherjee said that he had not been included in any group or position of the Congress party, except primary membership.

“Therefore, I have joined TMC as a soldier and will work accordingly with the party’s instructions. I will work to maintain integrity and secularism,” he said while addressing a press conference in the state capital.

Earlier on, there have been suggestions of side treatment to MP and party workers in Rajasthan. Leaders and MLAs in Rajasthan seem to be complaining about leadership issues with the Congress Party. With Sachin Pilot placing the table straight, there is some sense of relief for the party, it seems.

Apparently, there were certain demands that were not being fulfilled, for which party members like Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have reassured the disgruntled lot. Most of the complaints are coming from the Pilot camp itself. Leaders include Vishvendra Singh, Ved Prakash Solanki, Mukhesh Bhakar, and Ramniwas Gawria.

They are asking Pilot to speak to the Congress high command and also feel that that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot does not want to appoint those in the Pilot camp.
