One of the positive things to take from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is how much telemedicine can be put into use in the coming years. Mostly the treatments that were done during the course were over the phone or through the use of technology and it was time to invest in it, which the Indian government rightly caught and did go ahead with the idea.

On Friday, the Union Minister of State and Technology stated that in the coming years “telemedicine will be the main pillar of the country. Telemedicine technology is going to be the main pillar of India’s future health care system,” Jitendra Singh, the MoS minister.

He explained how such an innovative solution to serve the healthcare sector of the country could prove to be extremely beneficial in terms of the cost that it incurs. The minister stated that nearly $4-5 billion can be saved every year if this technology is abided in the most stringent manner.

As per the current planning, the project will be starting in three districts– Varanasi(Uttar Pradesh), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Kamjong (Manipur). As per this project, 60,000 patients will be covered and telemedicine will be made available to each one of these patients as a part of the initial planning. “Tele-medicine in the country has proven to be cost effective by about 30 per cent less than equivalent in-person visits,” Singh added while describing the possibilities of this tech blooming in India.
