Modi Gives The Gift Of Defense Self Reliance On The Eve Of Vijaydashmi

Delhi– In a very strange sign of defense on the eve of Vijaydashmi, PM Narendra Modi has dedicated seven defense companies to work on behalf of strengthening the country’s military preparedness.

This also means that Modi has made a move to formally replace the Ordnance Factory Board. In a mammoth move, the Centre will replace the over 200-year-old Ordnance Factory Board and bring into the seven fully entities to improve self-reliance in the country’s defense preparedness. This also means that the 41 ordinance factories will now be replaced by these seven new entities.

Addressing the nation via a virtual meeting, Modi has said that his intention is to “make India the world’s biggest military power on its own.” He was bringing the attention back to his novel message of ‘Made In India’ back into focus. Through this, he has also said that there will be more transparency and introduction to a single-window system to ensure India can become a major producer of defense equipment.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and representatives from the defense industry associations were present on the occasion. According to an official statement by the Press Office of the PM, the seven new defense companies that have been incorporated comprise Munitions India Limited (MIL), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI), Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India), Troop Comforts Limited (TCL), Yantra India Limited (YIL), India Optel Limited (IOL) and Gliders India Limited (GIL).

Political analysts might have reasons to believe that Modi is trying to ape the West and create a special place for India. In a time, when human rights groups are discouraging spending on defense buying, it seems rather dictatorial for Modi to have set India’s stand on being a ‘major global player in defense equipment.’

Addressing the nation, he has tried to show how projects stuck for the longest time have now moved and things are happening.
