Mission LiFE launched by PM Modi along with UN chief towards sustainable lifestyle for climate change

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres, has launched ‘Mission LiFE’ (Lifestyle For Environment), at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. This new initiative is aimed towards sustainable and healthy lifestyle while fighting climate change. PM Modi highlighted climate change and global warming as the main challenges before the world, and said that “Mission LiFE makes the fight against climate change democratic with the contribution of everyone in per own capacity”.

“The launch of Mission LiFE in Gujarat is important as it was the first state in the country to initiate measures in the direction of renewable energy and climate protection,” PM Modi said. He further highlighted that steps like introduction of solar power plants or installing panels on canals or water conservation in drought-prone have been aimed to fight the environment related crises while treading towards sustainable development.

Mr. Guterres unveiled the Mission LiFE logo and tagline. He also released the Mission Document at the event which was also attended by the Union Minister of External Affair Dr S. Jaishankar and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

PM Modi, at the event, described the Mission LiFe as India’s global initiative that will help the global fight against climate change. This mission is based on leading a sustainable way of life and help to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) that have been set by the United Nations. He added that the Mission LiFE supports the essence of the P3 model, i.e. Pro Planet People, that is based on the basic principles of ‘Lifestyle of the planet, for the planet and by the planet’.

Stressing on the strong association between India and UN, Mr. Modi said, “India had proposed the International Day of Yoga, which was supported by the UN. Today it is inspiring millions of people around the world to lead a healthy life.” He added the fight against climate change goes “beyond policy making and it needs wider support from individuals to the family community to protect the environment, and earth and help each other against climate-related disasters and extreme weather calamities”.
