Middle East Tensions Grow: What Indians Should Know

More fighting and anger between countries in the Middle East is making many people, including Indians, concerned about safety in the area.

Events of magnitude that have recently taken place include:

1. A Hezbollah leader in Lebanon was killed by Israel.

2. Hamas leader’s killing in Iran.

3. Another Hezbollah leader died in Lebanon last month.

These killings have enraged Iran and groups it backs, who vow to avenge their dead at Israel’s hands.

How Did This Start?

The trouble truly began with this war in Gaza. That conflict has overflowed into other places like Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen. In these nations, Iranian-aligned groups have become entangled.

What Should Indians Do?

If you are an Indian in Israel:

– Be very careful

– Follow all precautionary measures

If you are an Indian in Lebanon:

– Leave the country if possible

– Do not go to Lebanon now

Changes in Travel

Air India has cancelled all flights between India and Tel Aviv (a city in Israel) till August 8. This is so passengers could be kept safe.

What Are World Leaders Saying?

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, is very concerned about what is going on. According to him, the killing of the Hamas leader has worsened things.

What Next?

Iran and its allies discuss what should be their next move. Together, they could attack all at the same time or one after another.

Israel says it is ready to defend itself. The Israeli Prime Minister warned any nation thinking of attacking Israel that it will “pay a very high price.”.

Anyone in the Middle East, or who may be planning to go, should continue to monitor news developments and the advice from their embassy. For now, it’s all about safety.
