Microsoft Increases Prices of Xbox Consoles And Game Pass

Microsoft is increasing the price of its most recent console, the Xbox Series X, after keeping it nearly constant since its release.

The cost of Microsoft‘s most potent console will remain unchanged in the United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil, and Colombia, but will increase everywhere else.

If you’ve been considering purchasing the Xbox Series X, now may be the time to do so, before revised pricing is implemented. The updated pricing will not impact the Xbox Series S, which will continue to be sold for $299.

Here is the reason for the price increase. Kari Perez, chief of communications for Xbox, said in a statement, “We’ve maintained our console prices for many years and adjusted them in accordance with the levels of competition in each market.”

Xbox Series X will be priced at £479.99 in the United Kingdom, €549.99 in most European markets, CAD $649.99 in Canada, and AUD $799.99 as of August 1. The price increase brings the Xbox Series X in line with the PS5, which also saw a price increase last year.

Microsoft has announced that Game Pass prices for all consoles, not just Xbox Series X, will increase.

It will be the first time since its launch in 2017 that Game Pass prices will be adjusted, and while this might have been due to Microsoft’s agreement with Activision, Perez says that is not the case.

“These Game Pass price hikes have nothing to do with the Activision Blizzard merger and are intended to reflect local market conditions,” he explained.

Xbox Game Pass will increase from $9.99 per month to $10.99 per month, while Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will increase from $14.99 per month to $16.99 per month.

New Game Pass members will experience a price increase beginning on July 6, but recurring memberships will not be changed until August 13, or September 13 in Germany.

Although this price increase will affect the majority of markets, the Game Pass console price will not change in Norway, Chile, Denmark, Switzerland, or Saudi Arabia.
