Meta Confirms Threads Will Get Web And Search Features Too

Meta‘s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, revealed that his app Threads on Instagram will soon receive new features, including search and web functionality.

Zuckerberg stated his excitement about the team’s progress and mentioned that these features would arrive within a few weeks.

Threads, a text-based app, had seen a surge of users but lost some due to its limited features. The upcoming web feature will likely make Threads accessible through web browsers, enhancing convenience as users can currently only use it on mobile devices.

Additionally, the search feature will allow users to search for specific posts using keywords instead of relying solely on user accounts.

Meta’s Instagram-linked app Threads has seen a significant decline in user engagement just a month after its release.

Data from Similarweb shows that daily active users dropped from 49 million to 9.6 million by August 1, with time spent on the app decreasing from 14 minutes to 2.3 minutes.

Market research firm Sensor Tower reported an 82% decrease in daily active users from July 5 to July 31, with engagement dropping to 2.9 minutes a day.

Despite being one of the top-downloaded apps, Threads lacks features such as a search function and direct messages, making it less appealing than Twitter.

Zuckerberg’s announcement comes as Threads faced criticism for lacking basic functions. These new features are expected to address some user concerns and potentially attract back those who left.
Threads had gained momentum by amassing 100 million sign-ups rapidly, but many users departed due to its limitations.

In contrast, X (formerly Twitter), has been continuously introducing new features like live streaming and enhanced video capabilities, which has contributed to its growth.

Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants to make Threads more appealing by adding features that people have been asking for.

This will hopefully make Threads more popular and competitive with other social media platforms.
However, some features, like direct messaging and a trending section, are still missing. This leaves room for improvement in the future.
