Apparently, Choksi disappeared on May 23 from Antigua and Barbuda where he has been staying since 2018 as a citizen. He was detained in neighbouring island country Dominica for illegal entry after a possible romantic escapade with his rumoured girlfriend.

His lawyers had twisted the details saying that his human rights had been violated and he had been kidnapped by the police officials while he was with his girlfriend without proving anything concrete.  The Indian businessman has been wanted for a huge money laundering scam. Apparently, he was a co-accused in the Rs 12,700 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud. He had written to the CBI that he could not return to India, citing his suspended passport among the reasons.

Choksi had also cited personal health issues due to which he found it difficult to travel back.  Choksi is Nirav Modi’s uncle, the mastermind behind the whole scam that had left India ashamed for a long time. Modi borrowed money, buying diamonds and setting up a fashionable brand that could not return what it had borrowed. He is currently serving a sentence in British jail.
