800U phones in India: At the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2020, MediaTek revealed that Dimensity 800U-powered phones will make their way into Indian markets starting early next month. Although no particular phone brands were announced during the IMC 2020, it is likely and highly expected that first lot of phones will feature the chipset ready with 5Gand would be of Redmi and Realme.

It is to be noted that since launch of chipset in August, many phones from the two firms have featured them. This includes the newly launched Redmi Note 9 5G.

MediaTek has said that the 800U phones “will be launched in January 2021 and will be one of the first MediaTek powered 5G smartphones available in India.”

The chipset in reference, Dimensity 800U, has been made using a highly advance 7nm manufacturing process, which is TSMC’s 7nm FinFET. Chipset has an octacore CPU with 2 ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores set at up to 2.4 GHz and 6 ARM CorteX-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. Chipset also features 5G integrated modem which will support Dual Sim Dual Standby (DSDS), sub-6 GHz 5G on SA and NSA networks.

The 5G integrated chips will also support MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave Technology that allows 2.3 Gbps downloading speed and also will be power efficient. MediaTek claims that its Dimensity 800U chip will offer “world’s most power efficient smartphone 5G modem design”. It will also offer support for voice wakeup and dual-mic noise reduction technology, thereby reducing standby power consumption of a voice assistant, and also enabling it to hear clear sound even if there are external noise interruptions.

The MediaTek chipset will also support a FHD+ resolution support and refresh rate of 120Hz. There will also be a support of HDR10+ playback for videos. Cameras will be by ISP that can offer 64 megapixel image sensors and also quad camera designs.
