Manipur Violence Escalates: 3 More Killed

In Manipur, an Indian state totally battered by violence, 3 people were killed in a fresh attack in the Jiribam district, barely a day after rockets fired in another area killed an elderly man and injured five others.

It is between two groups- Kuki and Meitei. They have been fighting for 1.5 years now. However, things have worsened in the last 5 days more. On Friday night some people tried robbing army buildings in Imphal and tried taking firearms but the police were able to stop this.

The reason is, the new arms being used by the attackers including rockets and drones are making the fight even worse. For the first time, the conflict is seeing the usage of rockets.

Due to all these acts of violence, schools in Manipur were closed on Saturday. The police believed the rockets were homemade, prepared by filling pipes with explosives. They said that whoever made them must have practiced many times to use them.

The situation in Manipur is grim, and more people are likely to get injured if fighting does not stop.
