Kali Paltan was the name given to Indian soldiers during British control. The Lord Shiva shrine Aughadnath in Meerut was close to a cantonment. Previously, there was a black platoon.
As a result, the temple was also known as Kali Paltan Temple. According to legend, Indian soldiers would visit the Augharnath shrine to get a drink of water during the British era.
Once, the temple’s priests forbade the Indian soldiers from using the well on the grounds to get water. The priests said that the cartridges they were using contained cow fat when the troops questioned them about it.
Following this, the Indian soldiers began to rebel, which was the beginning of the 1857 revolution. On charges of rebellion, the British authorities executed Mangal Pandey in the same year.

He said that on the day of his birth, homage should be paid to the great Krantiveer Mangal Pandey, who was a forerunner in the Indian freedom struggle and a skillful organizer who, through his immeasurable sacrifice, sparked the spirit of liberation across the entire country.
