Mangal Pandey Birth Anniversary: India’s First Freedom Fighter

At the martyr memorial in Meerut, a life-size statue of this boy who was born in the Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, village of Nagwan has been erected. Even now, it inspires youth with excitement. PM Modi has maintained his stand in light of this.

The Flame Of Rebellion Against British Rule

Kali Paltan was the name given to Indian soldiers during British control. The Lord Shiva shrine Aughadnath in Meerut was close to a cantonment. Previously, there was a black platoon. 

As a result, the temple was also known as Kali Paltan Temple. According to legend, Indian soldiers would visit the Augharnath shrine to get a drink of water during the British era. 

Once, the temple’s priests forbade the Indian soldiers from using the well on the grounds to get water. The priests said that the cartridges they were using contained cow fat when the troops questioned them about it. 

Following this, the Indian soldiers began to rebel, which was the beginning of the 1857 revolution. On charges of rebellion, the British authorities executed Mangal Pandey in the same year.

On the occasion of the anniversary of Mangal Pandey’s birth, CM Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to him. He said that on the day of his birth, homage should be paid to the great Krantiveer Mangal Pandey, who was a forerunner in the Indian freedom struggle and a skillful organizer who, through his immeasurable sacrifice, sparked the spirit of liberation across the entire country.

When Meerut participated in the Kranti Diwas event on May 10, CM Yogi gave Mangal Pandey a prominent place among the nation’s freedom supporters.

Prabhat Pheri In The Birthplace Of Mangal Pandey

By eliminating Prabhat Pheri in Ballia, the national hero was honored. He was born on July 19th, 1827 in the Ballia town of Nagwan. 

He joined the 34th Battalion of the Bengal Native Infantry in the British East India Company’s army in 1849 at the age of 22, when he was 22 years old. 

On 8 April 1857, in Barrackpore, he was executed by hanging for sepoy mutiny. At his honor, nationalistic cries were heard in the Prabhat Pheri. The artist dressed as Mangal Pandey for this particular appearance.
