Mahavir Jayanti 2023: The Jain community places a great deal of significance on this holiday. On this day, they commemorate the Jain great Tirthankara’s birth anniversary.

He was born in the month of Chaitra on the thirteenth day of Shukla Paksha. Mahavir Jayanti commemorates the birth of a revered Jain Tirthankara. He is well-known as a Jain teacher who spreads the dharma. The holiday will be observed on April 4, 2023.

For Jain folk, Mahavir Jayanti has immense significance. They fervently and enthusiastically celebrate this day. The Jain saint Lord Mahavir, one of the most well-known saints, is honored on this day. One of the most revered and successful envoys of peace and harmony is Lord Mahavir. 

The 24th and last Tirthankara in the Jain tradition is Lord Mahavir. Children are told a number of stories about Saint Mahavir in honor of the great saint.

The parents of Lord Mahavir were King Sidhartha and Queen Trisala. According to the Swetambars, he was born in Kundalagrama, Bihar, on the thirteenth day of the Hindu month of Chaitra in 599 BC, however the Digambar Jains think he was born in 615 BC. He was given the name Vardhaman when he was a child. 

Despite being raised in a royal family and having access to all the comforts and privileges, he remained detached from this world of materialism. These transient pleasures never held his interest. 

As he grew older, he began to question the purpose of his life. As a result, at the age of 30, he abandoned the kingdom, his family, and his worldly responsibilities in search of inner peace and tranquillity. To be saved, he underwent 12 years of strict penance.

There are numerous things that Lord Mahavir taught, but these five are the most important, and the majority of members of the Jain community adhere to them:

1.Without violence

2.Truthfulness

3.Chastity

4.Lack of Attachment

Rituals for Mahavir Jayanti in 2023

  1. Take a holy bath after rising early in the morning.
  2. Flowers are presented, an idol of Lord Mahavira is placed, and abhishekam is performed.
  3. Devotees present fruits and sweets
  4. They provide food and clothing to the underprivileged and needy on this particular day.
  5. On this blessed day, severe fasting is observed.
