Kolkata Doctor’s Protest: RG Kar Doctor’s Murder Incident, city wide protest march, CBI investigation updates and much more

Tens of thousands of women marched on the streets on Wednesday night in protest against the horrendous act of rape and murder of a 31 year old trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital that took place last week.

History has been created many said after witnessing the The Reclaim the Night march that saw the common people’s frenzied protests and anger over the hospital administration and the state police. The march was led mainly by women but supported by men and saw the participation of people of all ages from children to elderly.

The Kolkata Police was seen firing tear gas shells and charging with sticks near the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital afterwards when a crowd of miscreants stormed into the college ransacking the site of murder, ENT and Emergency departments.

The incident happened when after a gruesome 36 hour shift, the victim had fallen asleep in a seminar room due to the lack of a designated area for rest at the hospital for doctors. The next morning she was found dead in a half covered state, on the podium bearing extensive injuries that showed how demonically painful the last moments of her life had been.

According to autopsy reports, the gangrape incident took place between 3 am to 5 am in the morning when she was sexually assaulted by a minimum of 10 to 12 people (according to the 150 ml of semen found in the victim’s body, a single male can only have 10 ml of semen in average) before being strangled and smothered to death. The injuries showed she bled from the eyes, mouth, face, nails, belly, legs, especially the left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger and lips. The victim also was bleeding from her private parts as per reports.

The students of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have come out and are openly being candid now about the reason for the death of their female colleague. According to reports, the doctors have said that there was a sex and prostitution racket that operated in the college. The female victim got to know about it and protested that resulted in her gang rape and death.

Before this event, there was also a death of a male junior medical doctor trainee by the name of Soumitro Biswas who protested and acted against the racket that resulted in his death in August 2001, although his case has been treated as a case of suicide by the Kolkata Police.

The Ex Principal of the hospital has been taken for questioning by the CBI in connection with the crime. The charge of the investigation was taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from the Kolkata Police on Wednesday, 14th of August 2024.

Resident Doctors Association (RDAs) across Delhi will be holding a joint protest march on Friday Aug 16, from the Nirman Bhawan in the Country’s Capital. The protest begins at 2pm. There will also be a candle march at 5pm today at India Gate.
