After winning the state elections for the second time, Pinarayi Vijayan will sworn in on oath ceremony on May 20. This new elected committee will have a 21-member cabinet as told by LDF convenor and CPI (M) state secretary, A Vijayaraghavan. He also confirmed that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan himself would decide the portfolios of the ministers to be inducted into the cabinet for this term.
Keeping in mind the situation of Covid-19, the oath-taking ceremony of the new Left government would be a low-key affair with limited invitees only. The party already received strong criticism over their initial plan of holding the function in the CentralStadium with 500 invitees. Explaining the formation of a new party, the LDFconvenor, mentioned that as there is a restriction to accommodate more than 21members in the cabinet, thus CPI (M), the largest coalition partner, in LDF would have 12 members in the new cabinet while CPI, the second-largest party, would have4 nominees while Kerala Congress (M), Janata Dal (S) and Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) each would have one representative only.
With this revelation, it has become quite clear that Antony Raju, from Janadhipathya Kerala Congress, KB Ganesh Kumar from Kerala Congress-B, Ahammad Devarkovilfrom Indian National League, and Ramachandran Kadannappally from Congress-Swill be included in the cabinet in two phases. This time it was a clear win for Kerala’sLDF party to come into power as they won the state elections by sweeping 99 seats, whereas their opposition parties, Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) could only manage to win 41 seats and BJP-NDA mopped the floor by not securing even a single seat. Along with the celebration of winning, the ministers also paid homage to Kerala Congress (B) former chief, late R Balakrishna Pillai who died earlier this month.
