After a severe backlash for his comments over the Kashmir Files, a controversial movie by Vivek Agnihotri, Aam Admi Party (AAP) convener has said that his statement was misrepresented. All he was trying to say was that ‘he was demanding everyone rise above the party line for the rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Pandits in the valley.’
He called the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits a “huge tragedy” and “injustice”, Kejriwal told the interviewer that a sensitive government should have given land to Kashmiri Pandits for their resettlement and formed a policy towards it.
Speaking to the media recently, Mr. Kejriwal has also said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the Centre had only played politics over the issue of Kashmiri Pandits and as to what the party had really done for uplifting and rehabilitating them in eight years at the Centre. “There have been BJP governments at the Centre for the last eight years. What have they done for Kashmiri Pandits? It’s unfortunate that the CM of an Indian is making a mockery of a genocide that happened in India.”
Last week, Mr. Kejriwal might have landed with his foot in his mouth when he said that the movie should have been released on Youtube if the Centre felt it should be watched by all administrations and be made tax-free. He also urged the director to release it on the internet in order for everyone could understand the truth and genuine plight of the Kashmiri Pandits. “For BJP, The Kashmir Files is important. For me, Kashmiri Pandits are more important. When Pandits migrated from Kashmir, 233 Pandits had joined the Delhi government as contract teachers in 1993. When our government came, we made all of them permanent. We didn’t make a film on them,” Kejriwal added.
