The Karwa Chauth fast is observed on Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the Hindu month of Kartik, according to Drik Panchang.
Married ladies offer sacrifices to the moon before breaking their fast and honor Lord Shiva, His family, and Lord Ganesha.
Women are prohibited from eating or drinking anything after daybreak until the puja is finished, and the fast is quite rigorous.
The festival will be observed this year on Thursday, 13th October. The period to fast is from 06.21 am to 08.11 pm, and the puja muhurat is from 05.55 pm to 07.09 pm on the day.
The chaturthi tithi, according to Drik Panchang, starts at 01.59 am on 13th October and finishes at 03.08 am on October 14.

This year, Sankashti Chaturthi, a fasting day dedicated to Lord Ganesha, falls on the same day as Karwa Chauth.
The words “karwa” and “chauth,” which both refer to earthen containers used to store wheat, are the origins of the festival’s name.
Women purchase brand-new earthen pots, or karwa, decorate them, and fill them with presents like bangles, bindis, and chocolates. They trade karwas with other women on this day.
According to history, Karwa Chauth began when Savitri pleaded Lord Yama, the god of death, for the soul of her spouse.

Another tale connects it to the Mahabharata, in which Arjun, one of the five Pandava brothers, visited the Nilgiris for a few days of prayer and meditation.
In order to ensure his safety, Arjuna’s wife Draupadi turned to Lord Krishna for assistance. He gave her the advice to observe a strict fast in the same way as Goddess Parvati did for her husband Shiva. Draupadi simply did it to see Arjun safely return home.
Married women rise before dawn on this day to perform customs. Their in-laws’ mothers-in-law provide them with a plateful of filling, nutrient-dense breakfasts that include ghee-laden halwa, dry fruits, & fresh fruit.
They keep a strict fast without food or water after that. Typically, husbands give their wives the first mouthful of the meal. Additionally, women pass karwas, or pots, seven times among themselves.
