Kadem Project: Heavy Rain Inflows To Water Projects In Telangana

Due to heavy rains in Telangana, the flood water broke the 64-years old record by flowing into the Kadem (Kadam or Kaddam) Project at an extreme level.

With the rains falling in the upper areas, the Kadem project of Nirmal district is experiencing a record level of flooding. 

With the incessant rains, the floodwaters are coming and going, breaking the 64-year-old record like never before. 

The flood surge will continue to be heavy for the project from Tuesday night. Officials have declared that the water level in the project is at a dangerous level as the flood water is pouring heavily. 

Kadem Project has a full water table of 700 feet and a full water storage capacity of 7,603 TMCs. 

As the project reached the full level of water level and 5 lakh cusecs of flood water entered the project, when one of the 18 gates of the project was lifted, all 17 gates were lifted and the authorities released two lakh 50 thousand cusecs of water. 

However, as the inflow is two lakh cusecs more than the outflow, the water flows from the top of the embankment of the project. Officials are worried that there is danger if the flood increases further.

In addition, as three lakhs of water was coming from the top of the project, District Collector Musharraf Ali, SP Praveen Kumar MLA Rekha Naik and Additional Collector Hemant inspected the area at the project. 

The local authorities were alerted and moved Kadem mandal center as well as several flooded villages in the mandal to higher areas. 

Minister Indrakaran Reddy said that till now 3 thousand families belonging to 12 villages have been moved to safe places. 

Heavy Flood Water Into ‘Gaddennavagu’

The Gaddennavagu project in Bhainsa is also getting heavy floods due to the rains in upper Maharashtra. The gates were closed on Monday afternoon as the inflow decreased, but the gates were lifted at midnight as the inflow increased again from night onwards.

Two gates in the morning and then three gates are being lifted to release the water. The project receives an inflow of 32,000 cusecs and releases 25,200 cusecs of water. 

Godavari Is Flowing At Its Highest Level

Godavari is flowing at its highest level on Tuesday due to heavy rains that have been falling for five days. Godavari became furious after 26 gates were lifted in SSARSP and water was released downstream. 

At Sadarmat in Medampalli village of the mandal, the full water level is 7.6 feet, while the water level continues at 9.11 feet during Mangalavaram. As per officials, 35,399 cusecs of flood will go into Godavari.
