Justice Uday Lalit Can Be The New Chief Justice of India (CJI)

The next CJI could be Justice UU Lalit. The current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, CJI N.V. Ramana has sent a recommendation to the Central Government for this.

New CJI of India: The next Chief Justice of India may be Justice UU Lalit. Justice Uday Umesh Lalit has been suggested by the incumbent Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, to be the next CJI. 

He has given the Minister of Law and Justice the sealed packet. Let us inform you that Justice Uday Umesh Lalit has been recommended by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana, who typically assumes the position based on seniority.

New Chief Justice of India (CJI)

NV Ramana, the present Chief Justice of India, would step down from his position on August 26. 

In such a case, he has recommended Justice UU Lalit to the government in accordance with the custom that has been followed up to this point.

The Minister of Law and Justice has received the recommendation letter from CJI Ramana.

Who Is Justice UU Lalit (Uday Lalit)?

Justice UU Lalit (Uday Umesh Lalit), will take over as India’s 49th Chief Justice of India on August 27, the day after V. Raman retires. 

In January 1971, he was appointed as the 13th CJI. On August 13, 2014, Justice Lalit was chosen to serve as a member of the Supreme Court. He was then a well-known attorney.

Since then, Justice Lalit has contributed to a number of significant rulings by the Supreme Court. In August 2017, a five-judge constitution bench ruled that the practice of “triple talaq” was unlawful by a 3-2 margin.

Additionally, Justice Lalit was one of those three judges. Justice You In a case involving the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, a bench led by Lalit overturned the contentious Bombay High Court ruling on “skin-to-skin contact.”

He will become the 2nd Chief Justice to be promoted from the bar to a bench of the supreme court if he is chosen as the position’s next leader. 

Prior to him, in March 1964, Justice S. M. Sikri became the first attorney to be appointed directly to the bench of the supreme court.
